A 23-year-old man was arrested at Rangpo Old Check Post on Saturday evening after being found in possession of a significant quantity of brown sugar, raising concerns over rising drug-related activities in the area.

The accused has been identified as Bishal Saha, son of Shiva Dayal Shah, and a resident of Lower Bazar, Rangpo. According to police sources, he was intercepted at around 8:00 p.m. by local authorities during a routine check. The case was handled by Sub-Inspector Ashim Rai, who reported the matter at 8:54 p.m.

During the search, law enforcement recovered 21.34 grams of suspected brown sugar from the youth. In addition to the narcotic substance, police also seized a half-used bottle of Sting juice, which was suspected to be mixed with cough syrup — often used as a method of consuming drugs.

The incident led to the immediate arrest of Bishal Saha, and an FIR was registered under FIR No. 33/2025 dated 15.06.2025, under Sections 21, 22(b), and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. He has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated to trace the source of the drugs and any possible links to local peddlers or suppliers.
