Youth arrested for alleged sexual assault of 19-year-old girl in Gyalshing

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Gyalshing district, Sikkim, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl in the early hours of Sunday, June 22. The accused, identified as Mani Kumar Mukhia, son of Bhim Bahadur Mukhia, was arrested from his residence shortly after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the victim’s elder brother at Gyalshing Police Station.

According to police reports, the alleged incident took place around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday in the 5th Mile, Malbasey area of Gyalshing. The victim’s brother, a 26-year-old resident of the same locality, reported that his younger sister was forcibly taken by the accused to an abandoned house belonging to one Bimal Subba, located just below their home. There, the victim was allegedly subjected to penetrative sexual assault.

Following the complaint, a case ; Gyalshing P.S Case FIR No. 14/2025 was registered under Sections 64 and 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation team promptly acted on the FIR and managed to locate the accused at his residence. He was taken into custody without resistance and has been formally arrested.

The victim was provided immediate medical attention, and a medical examination was conducted to support the investigation. Police officials also recorded her statement under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, before she was safely handed over to her legal guardian.

The investigating team has confirmed that the matter is currently under active probe and all necessary legal procedures are being followed.
