Young students turn farmers and sellers at Tashiding School in West Sikkim
What made the event so special was not just the vegetables on sale, but the spirit behind it.

An inspiring event took place at Tashiding Senior Secondary School recently, where the smallest students from the Primary Section showed that even little hands can do big things. These young students brought fresh organic vegetables from their own home gardens to sell in a special exhibition-cum-sale organised on the school premises.
What made the event so special was not just the vegetables on sale, but the spirit behind it. The children had grown these vegetables themselves, with love and care, in small kitchen gardens at home. With the support and guidance of their families, they learned how to plant seeds, water them regularly, and wait patiently for the crops to grow.
When the big day arrived, the children came to school proudly carrying baskets filled with leafy greens, tomatoes, chillies, and other homegrown produce. Their eyes sparkled with excitement as they set up their little stalls. Teachers, staff members, and the School Principal joined in the celebration, not just as spectators, but as enthusiastic buyers.
The Principal and teachers bought every single vegetable the children brought. But more than the vegetables, they were buying the efforts, the honesty, and the sense of pride these children carried with them. The event turned into something much bigger than a simple sale — it became a lesson in life. The students learned that there is dignity in every kind of work and that even farming, though simple, is a job worth respecting.
