The Yangthang Sporting Club is all set to host a grand football tournament at Kyongsha Stadium from August 3, 2025. The initiative, spearheaded under the guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and actively supported by Hon’ble Area MLA cum Minister Shri Bhim Hang Limboo, promises to bring the community together through the excitement and unity of sport.

The tournament is not only a tribute to the nation's independence but also a celebration of Sikkim’s 50-year journey as an integral part of the Indian Union. As part of the preparations, the youth members of Yangthang Sporting Club conducted a vibrant mass publicity campaign earlier today, covering the route from Gyalshing Zumsa Fatak to Kyongsha Stadium. The campaign saw active participation from local residents, with slogans, banners, and announcements energising the streets ahead of the tournament.

According to the organizers, this year’s football tournament is expected to draw teams from across the state and possibly from neighbouring regions, fostering healthy competition and community engagement. The winning team will receive a cash award of ₹6 lakh along with the prestigious champions’ trophy, while the runner-up will walk away with ₹4 lakh and a runner-up trophy — making this one of the most rewarding football events in the region in recent years.

Minister Bhim Hang Limboo, who is playing a key role in facilitating the event, emphasised the importance of sports in building discipline, teamwork, and unity among the youth. “This tournament is more than just a sporting event. It is a platform to honour our past, celebrate our present, and inspire our future through sportsmanship and community spirit,” he said.
