Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on July 16 said that his government is committed to support underprivileged individuals, students and organizations through key welfare schemes like the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) and the Chief Minister’s Education Assistance Scheme (CMEAS).

Speaking at a special programme held at Samman Bhawan, CM Tamang said, “Our government remains firmly committed to supporting underprivileged students, individuals, and organizations in their pursuits through the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant and the Chief Minister’s Education Assistance Scheme.”

During the event, the Chief Minister distributed financial assistance cheques to nearly 150 beneficiaries. These included students from poor families, deserving individuals, and institutions working for social upliftment. The programme was part of the state’s broader effort to extend timely help to those facing financial hurdles in their education or personal development.

The beneficiaries received aid under CMDG and CMEAS, which are flagship initiatives of the state government. While CMDG provides flexible support for urgent personal and community needs, CMEAS focuses on helping students who lack the financial means to pursue their education.

CM Tamang said that such support plays an important role in empowering Sikkimese youth and ensuring that economic hardship does not become a barrier to progress. “Through these and other state-led initiatives, we strengthen our dedication to uplifting those in need and making a meaningful difference in the lives of people across our communities,” he said.

The recipients expressed gratitude to the government, calling the assistance a “timely relief” that would help them pursue studies or meet urgent needs. Several students from remote areas of Sikkim said the financial support would allow them to continue their education without interruption.

The Chief Minister also said that development must be inclusive, and no section of society should be left behind. He added that these schemes are not just about providing money but about building a support system that empowers individuals to move forward with dignity and hope.
