Walkathon marks 50th Statehood celebration in Namchi with spirit of unity and tourism promotion

As part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood, a spirited Walkathon was flagged off today in Namchi, showcasing the state's commitment to unity, wellness, and sustainable tourism. The event, organized by the Tourism Information Centre (TIC) Namchi under the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, began at the scenic Namchi Central Park and concluded at Maniram, drawing participation from 72 individuals of diverse backgrounds.
The Walkathon was officially flagged off by Ms Shanti Rai, Chief Coordinator of IHCAE and IMF Gold Medallist, who emphasized the importance of community involvement in promoting a healthy and connected society. Her presence added prestige and inspiration to the event.
A concluding programme was held at Maniram, where Area MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded the efforts of the tourism department and stakeholders in promoting village tourism, particularly in Perbing and Maniram. He highlighted how these areas have the potential to evolve into vibrant tourism hubs, offering employment and income-generating opportunities to the local population.
Mr Rai expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for his consistent support toward regional development and tourism expansion. "With the guidance and encouragement of our Chief Minister, we are seeing steady progress in developing local tourism infrastructure. It is now our collective responsibility to build on this momentum,” he said.
