The Paljor Stadium in Gangtok came alive with energy, cheers, and footballing flair as the 2nd APFA International Veterans Football Tournament 2025 concluded in grand fashion on June 30. Organized by the All Pala Football Association (APFA) in collaboration with RTYC Gangtok, the 15-day tournament brought together seasoned footballers from around the world in a unique tribute to the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood.

Veteran teams from various countries and regions participated, showcasing not only their enduring football skills but also their shared love for the sport. From the opening match on June 15, the tournament generated excitement among local residents and tourists alike. With every goal, tackle, and cheer, the spirit of sportsmanship and unity resonated across the stadium.

The grand finale, played before a packed crowd at the iconic Paljor Stadium, saw high-energy performances and heartfelt moments, culminating in a celebration of both athletic talent and cultural connection. The tournament became a stage for global friendship, echoing values of harmony and inclusion.

Minister Ven Sonam Lama, the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony, praised the organizing bodies for their commitment to promoting fitness, inter-community unity, and veteran engagement in sports. “Such tournaments not only honour the legacy of our sportsmen but also bring communities closer. I commend the vision of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang whose support for sports and youth initiatives continues to uplift Sikkim,” he said.

Adding to the atmosphere, Hon’ble MLA Shri Aditya Golay, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, encouraged continued involvement of veteran players in sporting events. He highlighted how events like these help in preserving the sporting heritage while inspiring the younger generation to pursue physical activity and team spirit.

Several dignitaries, sports officials, and enthusiasts from across the state and abroad were also in attendance, turning the final day into a memorable celebration of talent and tradition.
