Uncle arrested for sexually abusing minor niece for three years in Namchi district

A man has been arrested for allegedly abusing his 11-year-old niece for the past three years in Namchi district. The incident was reported to the police on July 22, 2025, after the young girl told her mother about the ordeal.

According to a police report filed at the Namchi Police Station, the girl’s mother submitted a written complaint on July 22 at around 12:00 p.m. She said that her daughter revealed she had been molested by her uncle, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim’s privacy. The abuse reportedly began three years ago and continued until the girl spoke up this week. The mother’s complaint compelled an immediate response from the police, who registered a case under Sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The girl was taken to the District Hospital in Namchi for a medical examination to assess her condition and gather evidence. Following the examination, authorities placed her in the care of Shelter Home, a safe facility for children in need. The District Child Protection Officer was informed to ensure the girl receives proper support and counseling during this difficult time.The accused, identified as the girl’s uncle, was arrested on the same day and is currently in police custody.
