Pritam Rai, a dedicated ultra-runner from Sikkim, has once again brought pride to his home state by finishing first in the 100 Km Mawla Ghati Trail Run, held in Pune, Maharashtra. The challenging race took place on 14th June 2025 and saw participation from seasoned ultra-runners across India.
The Mawla Ghati Trail Run is not just any local event—it holds a special place in the world of endurance running. It is part of the ITRA (International Trail Running Association) National League of India, and it is also recognized under the UTMB Index Races. This means that runners who successfully complete the race earn points from both ITRA and UTMB, which are important for qualifying for major international ultra-trail races, including the prestigious Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) in Europe.
Pritam Rai completed the 100-kilometre race with great determination and endurance. The trail was filled with difficult terrain, steep climbs, and unpredictable weather, but Pritam pushed through with focus and strength. His victory is not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the people of Sikkim, especially for the growing community of runners and athletes in the region.
By winning this race, Pritam has earned valuable ITRA and UTMB points, which now make him eligible to apply for bigger and more competitive international trail races in the future. These points are essential for runners who aim to participate in events like UTMB, one of the most difficult and celebrated ultra-trail races in the world, held annually in the Alps.
