Ultimate Marathon set to begin from Changu Lake, athletes gear up for high-altitude challenge

High Altitude International Marathon is all set to kick off from the iconic Changu Lake, perched at an altitude of over 12,000 feet, drawing athletes from across India and around the world for a race like no other. More than 500 runners, including both seasoned professionals and passionate amateurs, have gathered at the starting point near the glacial lake, eager to take on the steep descent toward Gangtok. The route cuts through sharp gradients, narrow bends, and scenic Himalayan landscapes, offering participants a rare blend of thrill and natural splendor.

Speaking to Sikkim Chronicle, runners described the atmosphere as “electric” and “inspiring.” Many shared their enthusiasm about running through one of the highest and most picturesque marathon routes in the world. “It’s a dream to run amidst such stunning views,” said one international participant. “The challenge is real, but so is the motivation.”
