Two-day training on immunization and AEFI concludes in Gyalshing

A two-day residential training program on Routine Immunization (RI) and Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) for healthcare workers concluded successfully on March 12, 2025, at District Hospital Gyalshing. The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of health workers, including staff nurses, ANMs, MLHPs, and MPHWs from District Hospital Gyalshing and various healthcare centers under Gyalshing and Soreng districts.

Organized by District Hospital Gyalshing, the program focused on improving immunization services and strengthening the management of adverse events following immunization. PDHS-cum-CMO Gyalshing, Dr. Bikash Pradhan, graced the event and encouraged participants to actively engage in learning and apply the acquired skills in their respective health centers. He highlighted the importance of quality healthcare in ensuring community well-being.

Expert resource persons, including the Medical Officer Incharge of Yuksam PHC, APO-RCH, a pediatrician, and the District Data Manager (DDM) from District Hospital Gyalshing, conducted sessions covering essential topics such as immunization protocols, vaccine administration, cold chain management, AEFI surveillance and reporting, and online data entry via the U-WIN portal.

The training included key topics such as:

Routine Immunization (RI): Importance of immunization, the National Immunization Schedule, cold chain management, and safe injection practices.

Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI): Identification and classification of AEFI, immediate management of adverse reactions, proper reporting and documentation, and strategies for community awareness and confidence-building in immunization programs.

Participants benefited from interactive sessions, presentations, and hands-on demonstrations designed to strengthen their immunization practices and emergency response capabilities. On the second day, CMO Soreng, Dr. Namgay Bhutia, officially concluded the training, urging participants to provide their best efforts in immunization services. He assured them of his continued support in achieving healthcare targets.
