Tragedy strikes near Ranipool; tree falls on labourer killing him in front of his children

Along the under-construction two-lane Gangtok bypass road near Ranipool, close to Rumtek, a tree fell suddenly on a man working at the site, killing him on the spot.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Santosh Giri, a labourer who was working on the road project to support his family. He was at the site with his two young children when the accident happened. According to witnesses, the children were crying and screaming in fear and confusion as they saw the tragedy unfold in front of them.
Eyewitnesses say that the tree came down without warning. Before anyone could react, it crashed directly onto Santosh. Other workers and passersby rushed to the spot, but it was too late.
