In a bid to promote adventure sports and celebrate 50 years of Sikkim's statehood, the Tourism Department launched a 10-day-long rock climbing event for school students today. Named Rock Climbing-2025: A Prologue to Adventure Takes Off, the event is set to engage over 300 students from 11 schools across Gangtok, offering them a unique opportunity to explore the thrills of rock climbing.

The inaugural day saw the participation of MLA/Advisor Sudesh Subba as the Chief Guest, and Prakash Chettri, Secretary of the Tourism Department, as the Special Guest. Both officials highlighted the importance of such adventure events in fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for Sikkim’s natural beauty.

The event, which kicked off with great enthusiasm, will culminate on May 2, with a Rock Climbing Championship, where the students will showcase the skills and techniques they've developed over the course of the program. This initiative is part of the state’s broader effort to celebrate its rich history and achievements in the 50th year of its statehood.

Students will not only gain practical experience in rock climbing but also benefit from training under the supervision of expert instructors. The event is expected to foster a spirit of adventure among the younger generation while promoting Gangtok as a hub for adventure tourism.
