'Tiranga Yatra' to be held in Sikkim on 50th Statehood Day to honour brave soldiers
Following the Tiranga Yatra, the official Statehood Day celebration will begin. This event is being organised by the Home Department of the Sikkim Government.

On the eve of Sikkim’s 50th Statehood Day, Arun Kumar Upreti, Secretary-General of the Sikkim Krantikari Party and Minister of Rural Development said that a special 'Tiranga Yatra' will be organized in Gangtok to honour the brave soldiers of India. The yatra, he said will be a tribute to the Indian soldiers who have fought courageously against Pakistan and terrorism.
Upreti shared the details during an address on May 15 said, “Hello, I am Arun Kumar Upreti, Secretary-General of the Sikkim Krantikari Party. I would like to inform you that our brave soldiers from India, who have won over Pakistan and terrorists, deserve to be respected and remembered. In Sikkim, under the guidance and direction of our Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, we have decided to organise a Tiranga Yatra dedicated to our soldiers.”
The Tiranga Yatra will take place on May 16, which marks the 50th Statehood Day of Sikkim. It will begin at 8:30 am from MG Marg in Gangtok and conclude at Paljor Stadium. The event will be a foot march and people from all walks of life are being encouraged to participate.
“I invite all the people of Sikkim, especially the people of Gangtok, all mothers, brothers, and sisters to join this yatra. Let us all come together to respect and support the brave soldiers of our country. This event is about honouring the spirit of India and showing our unity,” Upreti said.

It will feature cultural performances and speeches that reflect on Sikkim’s journey as a part of the Indian Union over the last five decades.
This year’s celebration is seen as a special one, marking not just a historic milestone for Sikkim but also an opportunity to pay tribute to the Indian Armed Forces. The state’s leadership is placing strong emphasis on patriotism, unity and national pride, especially among the youth.
Upreti’s message has already drawn attention and appreciation on social media, with many expressing support for the Tiranga Yatra.
Security arrangements and traffic advisories are expected to be issued by the local administration to ensure smooth conduct of the yatra and the main event at Paljor Stadium. Participants have been advised to reach MG Marg before 8:30 am.
