Tiranga march led by CM Tamang fills Gangtok streets with patriotic fervour

The heart of Gangtok was wrapped in patriotic colours on May 16 as Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) led a grand Tiranga March from MG Marg to Paljor Stadium. The march was organised to mark the 50th year of Sikkim’s Statehood and to pay tribute to the Indian Army for the successful execution of 'Operation Sindoor'.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life walked alongside the Chief Minister, holding the Indian national flag with pride. The colourful rally moved through the streets of Gangtok with slogans of unity and patriotism echoing from every corner. The event was held under the National Flag Movement, aiming to spread a deeper sense of national pride and responsibility among citizens.

Chief Minister Tamang was joined by a large group of dignitaries including Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Advisors, Chairpersons, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Zilla Panchayat members, Councillors, Panchayats, and Heads of various Government Departments. Representatives from several ethnic community associations, students from different schools, and members of the general public also participated in large numbers.

The march, filled with tricolour flags waving high, was not just a celebration, but also a solemn tribute to the Indian Army. The participants remembered and honoured the sacrifices of soldiers and applauded their role in keeping the country safe. The successful execution of 'Operation Sindoor' was a key highlight, with several speakers at the event commending the dedication and bravery of the armed forces.

Speaking at the culmination of the rally at Paljor Stadium, the Chief Minister said that the Tiranga March was not only about celebration, but also about reflection and commitment to the ideals of the nation. He urged the youth to carry forward the spirit of unity and national integrity, reminding everyone that the Tricolour is a symbol of the country’s strength and shared destiny.

The 50th Statehood Day celebration is a historic moment for Sikkim, which joined the Indian Union in 1975. Since then, the state has seen tremendous progress in various sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and governance.
