Three soldiers dead, six missing in Chaten landslide; Army continues rescue efforts amid harsh conditions

A tragic landslide hit the Indian Army military camp in Chaten, District Lachen, on the evening of June 1. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM after heavy rainfall triggered the massive slide, burying parts of the camp and trapping several army personnel.

Soon after the disaster, Indian Army teams swung into action. Their quick and dedicated response helped rescue four individuals who had sustained minor injuries. Unfortunately, the bodies of three men; Havaldar Lakhbindar Singh, Lance Naik Manish Thakur, and Porter Abhishek Lakra were found during the operation. These brave hearts lost their lives in the line of duty.

At the time of reporting, six personnel are still missing. The missing include:

a) Lt Col Pritpal Sandhu (GSO-I), his wife Sqn Ldr Arati B Sandhu (Retd), and daughter Amaira Sandhu

b) Sub Dharamveer

c) Sep Sainudheen P K

d) Sep Sunilal Muchahary
