A 17-year-old girl from South Sikkim has come to light, prompting a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault. The case came to light on Sunday, June 23, 2025, when a health center reported concerns about the young girl's health.
The story started around 3:15 in the afternoon on Sunday at the Makha Police Outpost, which is part of the Singtam Police Station. Police officers there received a call from a doctor at the Health and Wellness Centre, run by the Government of Sikkim. The doctor, whose name was not fully released, informed the police about a patient.
This patient was identified as Miss Mxxxx Lxxxx, a 17-year-old girl. Her father's name is Bxxx Bxx Lxxxx, and she lives in Lxxxx Dxxx, Lxxxx Txxxxx, Lxxxxx, Sxxxx Sxxxx. The health center had noted that the girl had missed her period for two months and was also experiencing pain in her stomach. Tests done at the center, called UPT, had come back positive two times on Saturday, June 22, 2025. This meant she was pregnant.
Following this important call, the police officer in charge started looking into the matter right away. Their investigation quickly showed that Miss Mxxxx Lxxxx was indeed 17 years old. This age was confirmed by school records provided by the Headmaster of Txxxxx Jxx School, Mr. H***.
As the police continued their questioning, the young girl shared more information. She told them that a person she knew, whom she called "Juna Bhena," had sexually assaulted her. This person was later identified by the police as Arjun Sharma. He lives in Lower Todey, which is in Lingmoo, South Sikkim. The girl said the assault happened at Arjun Sharma's home. However, she was not able to remember the exact date when this happened.
After she told her story, the minor girl was taken for a medical examination. This was done at the District Hospital in Singtam. The doctor on duty at the hospital checked her and confirmed some important medical findings. The doctor's report stated that the UPT test was positive, confirming pregnancy. The doctor also said that a specialist, either a radiologist or a gynecologist, would need to give an expert opinion on how far along the pregnancy was, but clinically, it appeared to be around 16 weeks. The medical report also noted that her "hymen was not intact," which is a medical finding often associated with sexual activity.
Based on all these facts and the medical findings, the police officer involved in the investigation decided to officially report the case. The officer asked for the necessary legal action to be taken against the accused person, Arjun Sharma, who lives in Lower Tokdey, Lingmoo, South Sikkim.
Because of these serious allegations, a formal police case was registered. It was given the number ZERO FIR, meaning it was the first report of this crime. The case was registered on June 23, 2025, under Section 06 of the POCSO Act 2012. The POCSO Act is a very important law in India that protects children from sexual offenses. The case was registered against Arjun Sharma, from Lower Tokdey, Lingmoo, South Sikkim.
