A serious case of alleged sexual and verbal assault involving a 14-year-old student has compelled a police investigation in Dentam, West Sikkim. The accusations was lodged against a school teacher and two local residents.

On July 14, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Gyalshing police received a formal complaint from the headmistress of a local school, supported by 14 staff members. The complaint noted that a Class VII student had been showing signs of distress since returning from summer vacation. On July 10, 2025, around 11 a.m., school staff met with the student to discuss her behavior. During this conversation, she said that she had been sexually and verbally assaulted by three individuals: her teacher and two others from the community.

The Gyalshing police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 3, 4, 5(f), and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. These sections cover various forms of sexual offenses against minors.

Police said that the investigation is active, with several leads already identified. To protect the student’s privacy, police have not released any names involved in the case.
