The quick response of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under Project Swastik on Saturday saved both a human life and a military ambulance from disaster on the treacherous Naga-Toong road.

The mishap occurred when a military ambulance, which was on emergency duty, suddenly skidded on the difficult and slippery stretch of the road. The vehicle lost balance and slid dangerously towards a deep gorge, putting the lives of four people on board at grave risk. One individual was thrown into the gorge while the ambulance itself hung perilously on the slope.

As panic gripped the area, the team from 107 Road Construction Company (RCC) of Project Swastik, stationed nearby, rushed to the spot without losing a moment. With remarkable courage, skill, and presence of mind, the BRO personnel launched a daring rescue mission. The team first managed to pull out the person who had fallen deep into the gorge, saving his life against all odds. At the same time, they undertook the challenging task of retrieving the heavy military ambulance, which was stuck in a highly dangerous position.

The recovery was carried out with precision, ensuring that the vehicle did not suffer further damage and that the soldiers inside were brought to safety. The timely and fearless action of the BRO once again highlighted its vital role in safeguarding both people and infrastructure in India’s remote and difficult border regions.

Project Swastik has long been known as the lifeline of the nation’s border roads. The incident at Naga-Toong only reaffirmed this reputation, as the BRO team not only prevented a major tragedy but also restored confidence among military personnel and local residents who rely heavily on these roads.

The motto of Project Swastik, “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” – meaning “Everything is Achievable through Hard Work” – was once again lived out in practice during this rescue. Each mission taken up by the organisation shows its commitment to ensuring safety, connectivity, and trust in some of the most unforgiving terrains of the country.
