Successful completion of skill training on integrated pest and disease management for rural youth in Yangang

A six-day Skill Training for Rural Youth on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) concluded successfully today at the Karong Agriculture Office in Sripatam Gagyong GPU, Yangang. The program, which began on December 16, was organized by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in collaboration with the Agriculture Department and sponsored by MANAGE, Hyderabad.
The training aimed to equip rural youth with practical skills to manage pests and diseases sustainably, ensuring long-term solutions for pest and disease control. The focus was on combining biological, physical and mechanical management practices.
Participants were introduced to a variety of topics, including indigenous technical knowledge (ITK) and integrated pest and disease management strategies tailored for different crops such as vegetables, fruits, spices, and field crops. Practical demonstrations on the preparation of biopesticides were also conducted, highlighting accessible solutions for local farmers.
The training program was led by key resource persons, including Deputy Director of Agriculture, Ms. Vaishnu Rai, Agricultural Development Officer Florenz Bhutia and Agriculture Inspectors Yona Pradhan, Tuphan Rai and Tshering Yangchen Bhutia. During the program Rai encouraged the participants to apply the skills learned and share their knowledge with fellow farmers in their communities.
Panchayat President also attended the event, expressing appreciation for the Agriculture Department's efforts in empowering rural youth and supporting the development of the agriculture sector. A total of 21 participants completed the training, gaining valuable skills to contribute to sustainable farming practices in the region.
