At least 10 people are feared dead, and over 30 women have been injured in a stampede-like incident that took place at the Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred amid the massive crowds gathered for the holy bath on Mauni Amavasya, one of the most auspicious days during the festival.
According to officials, a barrier at the Sangam area broke, leading to a chaotic rush as thousands of pilgrims jostled to take part in the sacred dip. The situation quickly escalated, causing panic among the devotees.
Akanksha Rana, the Officer on Special Duty for the Mela, confirmed the incident, stating, "Some people have been injured and are being treated in hospitals. The exact number of those injured is still being verified." Authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and are coordinating with medical teams to provide immediate assistance to the affected.
The Mahakumbh, held every 12 years, attracts millions of pilgrims from across the country, making it one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
