The Soreng District Police have made three significant breakthroughs in just two weeks, underscoring their strong commitment to making the district drug-free. The latest case involved the seizure of a large quantity of banned capsules and the arrest of a suspected habitual drug peddler.

On July 11, 2025, at around 11:35 a.m., officers from the Naya Bazar Police Station intercepted a private vehicle—a white WagonR with registration number SK04/PA 3302—at Akkar Booth near Nayabazar. The operation, carried out under the supervision of Ms. Sakchum Lepcha, SCS, SDM Soreng, led to the arrest of Sujit Kumar Subba, aged 36, a resident of Pipaley Rateypani under Soreng District.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 838 blue-coloured Windlas Winspasmo Forte capsules, a substance known to be misused for drug-related activities. The capsules were seized on the spot, and Sujit Kumar Subba was taken into custody. He has now been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, as well as the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act, 2006.

According to police sources, Sujit is a habitual offender and had been under close watch for some time. His arrest is considered a major win for the local law enforcement, which has been actively pursuing leads and monitoring known suspects. The vehicle used in the illegal transport has also been impounded.

The Soreng District Police have reiterated their mission to make the district a "Nasha Mukta" (drug-free) zone and appealed to the public to come forward and support this cause. Superintendent of Police Nahkul Pradhan, SPS said in a press release, “We are committed to freeing Soreng from the menace of drugs. Our goal is to ensure a safer and brighter future for our youth and our communities. We urge all citizens to join hands with us in this mission.”
