In a spirited lead-up to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, the AYUSH Division of Soreng Primary Health Centre (PHC) launched a comprehensive health and wellness programme at ADD Children Home, Chakung. The event, held under the aegis of the National AYUSH Mission and the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, marked the beginning of a series of activities promoting holistic health.

The day-long initiative combined medical outreach with yoga awareness, aligning with this year’s IDY theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. The programme commenced with an extensive health screening for children, carried out by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. The team included Dr. Akriti Rai (Medical Officer), Dr. Bibek Pradhan (Dental Surgeon), Dr. Roshma Thapa (AYUSH Medical Officer), Mr. Lakpa Sherpa (Ophthalmic Technician), and Yoga Instructor Mrs. Darshika Sharma.

The health check-up covered a range of services such as anaemia screening, eye and dental examinations, and overall health assessments. Children were also provided with immunity-boosting supplements including Ayurvedic kada, Chyawanprash, and other essential allopathic or homeopathic medicines, tailored to individual needs.

A central attraction of the event was the Yoga Samavesh session, which drew active participation from both children and caregivers. The interactive module highlighted yoga’s multidimensional benefits—enhancing physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. Participants engaged in guided breathing exercises, simple asanas, and informative discussions that demystified yoga practices and connected them with daily well-being.

“This is more than just a countdown to June 21; it’s a step towards integrating wellness into everyday life, especially for children,” said Dr. Roshma Thapa, emphasizing the value of early exposure to yoga and preventive health care.

The programme concluded with a group yoga practice that symbolized collective harmony and community spirit, aligning closely with the global message of IDY 2025.
