Ven. Sonam Lama, the Hon’ble Minister from Sikkim, met with Shri Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting was held to build stronger coordination between the state of Sikkim and the central government. The leaders talked in detail about working together on various important matters, especially those related to religion, culture, and development.
During the meeting, Ven. Lama shared Sikkim’s concerns and ideas. He explained how Sikkim is home to a rich cultural and spiritual heritage. He spoke about the importance of preserving traditional practices, monasteries, and values that are deeply rooted in the state’s identity. Shri Rijiju, who himself belongs to the Northeast, listened carefully and appreciated the efforts made by the Sikkim government to protect and promote its cultural legacy.
One of the main topics of the discussion was how central government schemes can reach the people of Sikkim more effectively. Ven. Lama highlighted that many good schemes from the Centre often do not reach the remote villages and communities in the hills. He said that better coordination between state and central departments can help solve this issue. Shri Rijiju assured him that the Centre is committed to supporting Sikkim and other Northeastern states in every possible way.
They also discussed how the central government can provide more help to traditional institutions like monasteries and cultural centres. These places not only play a spiritual role but also bring people together and preserve the local identity. Ven. Lama said that such institutions should be strengthened so that young people can learn about their own roots and feel proud of their heritage.
The meeting was friendly and positive. Both the ministers agreed that strong cooperation between the Centre and the state is very important for the balanced development of the region. They decided that there should be more regular discussions and follow-up on the points raised, so that ideas can turn into action.
