In a sharp critique of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) spokesperson Yojna Rai has accused the state government of misusing public resources for political propaganda while failing to deliver on real developmental goals. Speaking during a press conference earlier this week, Rai strongly condemned SKM’s recent celebrations and policies, calling them “narrative manipulation at the cost of public trust.”

Addressing supporters and the media, Rai began by thanking those who followed the party’s message online. She said the press conference was necessary to counter what she described as “distorted narratives” pushed by SKM during the celebration of the 22nd June Revolutionary Day.

“These programs, including a Women’s Day celebration where crores of rupees were spent, were funded by public money but lacked genuine intent. They served more as political shows than efforts to empower citizens,” Rai said.

She further alleged that the SKM government has failed to present any credible developmental achievements and has instead focused on suppressing opposition voices and leveraging platforms like the United Nations’ Social Development Board for political mileage.

“The reality is that ground-level development is stagnant. Even global initiatives are being turned into local propaganda tools without delivering any actual impact,” she said.

Rai also raised concerns about gender bias in governance. “SKM has shown a lack of respect toward educated women leaders. Their functioning remains male-dominated, disregarding calls for inclusive and progressive leadership,” she said, emphasizing the need for policies rooted in equality and accountability.

Calling on the people of Sikkim to look beyond “flashy events and empty speeches,” the SDF spokesperson reiterated the party’s commitment to dignity, transparency, and democratic values.

“Our fight is not just political—it is social. We are standing for every citizen who feels unheard and left behind,” Rai said.
