The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has strongly condemned a recent press release issued by the Citizen Action Party (CAP) on April 28, 2025, accusing the party of misrepresenting statements made by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). The release, which targeted the Chief Minister’s remarks during the inauguration of the Sub-Divisional Administrative Centre (SDAC) office in Mangalbaria, Soreng District, has sparked sharp criticism from the ruling party, which calls the allegations "misleading and malicious."

In a press statement issued by the SKM, the party dismissed the accusations made by CAP as politically motivated and devoid of substance. The statement highlighted that CAP’s attempt to distort the Chief Minister's speech was nothing more than a display of political opportunism and a desperate attempt to create division in the state’s political discourse.

"The CAP’s accusations reflect their growing irrelevance in Sikkim’s political landscape. Instead of engaging in constructive debate, they resort to cheap theatrics aimed at undermining the government’s achievements," said the SKM statement. "The Chief Minister’s remarks about the SKM's continued electoral success are based on the people's trust and support, built on years of transparent governance, inclusive development, and administrative reform."

SKM also called out CAP for its "hypocrisy," pointing to the party’s own leader, who in 2023, in Rangpo, had boldly claimed that “no one could stop him” from becoming Sikkim’s Chief Minister, despite having no mandate, no mass support, and no representation in the Assembly. The SKM argued that such claims of personal ambition, without a foundation in public service or accountability, were a stark contrast to the government’s focus on the welfare of the people.

The press release also addressed CAP’s criticism of the SKM government’s initiative to regularize temporary employees in Sikkim. The SKM clarified that the regularization process was being undertaken through a structured and legally sound framework, which ensured fairness, dignity, and long-term job security for the state's workforce. "It is not only absurd but also irresponsible for CAP to equate this initiative with petty politics," said the SKM, emphasizing that the regularization was a long-overdue reform designed to bring stability to Sikkim’s labor market.

The SKM also took a dig at CAP’s sudden concern for democracy, accusing the party leadership of selectively invoking democratic values while previously aligning with parties known for their practice of nepotism and unaccountable governance. "CAP’s rhetoric on democracy is empty when their own leadership has shown a track record of negativity, obstructionism, and personal ambition," stated the SKM.

The ruling party reiterated its commitment to empowering the youth, improving livelihoods, and fostering a resilient economy. "Our focus remains on delivering real change and ensuring that Sikkim’s future is built on opportunity, innovation, and public trust," said the SKM. "We invite all responsible stakeholders to engage in issue-based dialogue, instead of spreading baseless allegations and engaging in fear-mongering."
