Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, Chairman of SIMFED (Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd.), participated in the annual whitewashing ceremony of the sacred Tashiding Chorten, one of Sikkim’s most revered Buddhist monuments. The ceremony was organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC), Gangtok, as part of its enduring commitment to cultural preservation.

Held during the holy month of Saga Dawa, a spiritually significant period for Buddhists that marks the birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana of Lord Buddha, the event has become a yearly tradition since its inception in 2005. The whitewashing of the chorten is not merely an act of physical maintenance but a sacred ritual imbued with prayer, devotion, and communal harmony.

Chairman Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, known for his humility and strong grassroots presence, personally joined the volunteer effort, working alongside members of the RTYC and local devotees. He also made a financial contribution to support the cause and offered prayers for the wellbeing of Sikkim and the continued leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Addressing those present, he praised the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress for their consistent efforts in upholding the spiritual and cultural legacy of the region. “Their dedication over the past two decades has kept this sacred tradition alive and meaningful for the younger generation,” he said, emphasizing the need to pass such customs down through community engagement.
