Sikkim’s youth have the potential to shine beyond borders: Sharda Tamang Golay at State Boxing Championship

“Sikkim’s youth have the talent and potential to make a mark far beyond our borders,” said Sharda Tamang Golay, spouse of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, as she addressed an enthusiastic crowd on the second day of the 19th Sub-Junior and 20th Junior Sikkim State Boxing Championship 2025 at the Reshithang Sports Complex.
Gracing the second-half opening ceremony as the chief guest, Mrs. Golay encouraged young boxers to remain disciplined and focused, emphasizing the role of sports in shaping both character and careers. Her presence, alongside senior dignitaries and sports officials, lent inspiration to the budding athletes competing in the championship.

The event has attracted widespread participation from all districts, turning the Reshithang Sports Complex into a vibrant arena of athleticism and community pride.
The ceremony also saw attendance from prominent personalities including Yanchen Doma Tamang, Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs; Pravaker Golay Tamang, Chief Coordinator of Jun Prokosta Kalyan; Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation; and Rinzing W. Bhutia, Chairperson of the State Sports Development Board.
SABA President and Arjuna Awardee Jas Lal Pradhan, along with Dronacharya Awardee Sandhya Gurung, welcomed the guests and thanked the state government for its consistent support in promoting youth development through sports. “Such championships are vital not only for talent identification but also for building discipline and confidence in our youth,” Pradhan said.
