Sikkim’s tribal representatives, Dorjee Sherpa Pinasa and Jhongmu Bhutia, had the honor of participating in the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, as part of a distinguished group of delegates from all across India’s states and union territories.

The duo, during their ten-day official tour, were warmly welcomed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. One of the highlights of their visit was a special interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence. The meeting provided a platform for these tribal leaders to discuss matters concerning their communities and exchange valuable insights with the nation’s highest office.

Moreover, the tribal representatives attended a cultural program hosted by the President’s office in the majestic Central Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The event offered a unique opportunity to meet and converse with the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, further enhancing the experience for the delegates.

The tour also allowed Pinasa and Bhutia to engage with other tribal leaders from across India. The exchange of ideas, stories, and discussions about the diverse cultures and traditions of tribal communities across the country fostered a deeper sense of unity and mutual respect.

Accompanying the tribal leaders was Sonam Ongchen Bhutia, Assistant Director from the TRI Division of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, who played a crucial role in supporting the delegation’s participation.

Expressing their gratitude, both Pinasa and Bhutia thanked the Prime Minister, the President, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, for the invaluable opportunity. They also extended special thanks to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for their warm hospitality and efforts in making the tour an unforgettable experience.
