The second day of the prestigious World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, held at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai, witnessed a significant leap in Sikkim’s outreach efforts as the state delegation unveiled specially designed interactive digital info cards. These compact, PVC-based promotional tokens, embedded with QR codes, were a key element of the state’s strategy to engage with a wider audience and mark the upcoming 50th anniversary of its Statehood on May 16, 2025.
Led by Ms. Annapurna Alley, Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department, the delegation included high-ranking officials such as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Bikash Basnet, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Yougan Tamang, Secretary of the IT Department Mr. Tenzing T Kaleon, Director of IT Mr. Tsering Samdup, and other IPR officials. These QR cards serve as a gateway to a digital repository showcasing a collection of initiatives and events curated by the Government of Sikkim in celebration of its 50 years of Statehood.
The digital cards, conceived, designed, and executed in just one day, reflect the delegation’s quick thinking, teamwork, and commitment to showcasing Sikkim’s identity on a national stage. Their swift execution ensured that the message of Sikkim’s achievements and future plans reached the right audience in an impactful and timely manner. The vibrant, state-symbol-adorned cards attracted appreciation from delegates, including content creators, media professionals, and industry leaders, creating valuable networking opportunities.
This digital initiative not only highlighted Sikkim’s creative ecosystem but also aligned with the broader vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ reinforcing the state’s place in India’s evolving creative and digital landscape. Throughout the summit, the delegation actively engaged with both creative and corporate stakeholders, exploring opportunities for national and international collaboration, particularly as the state prepares to celebrate its 50th year of Statehood.
In addition to the digital info cards, the delegation shared the IPR Department’s annual calendar and a curated coffee table book on Sikkim’s diverse shooting destinations, aimed at attracting filmmakers, production houses, and digital content creators interested in scenic yet logistically feasible locations.
The delegation also participated in several insightful sessions and panel discussions, engaging with emerging trends in the global entertainment and media ecosystem. Highlights included thematic conversations on “Studios of the Future: Putting India on the World Studio Map” with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, and “The Unifying Power of Media Content” by Alexander Zharov, CEO of Gazprom Media. Other discussions on AI in media and entertainment, trends in Gen-Z content consumption, and a creative session with music maestro Shankar Mahadevan were equally impactful.
