She is the only student from India to be selected this year, putting Sikkim on the global education map and showcasing the region’s academic brilliance.
Mahima, daughter of Shri P. P. Sharma and Mrs. Gauri Sharma, began her academic journey at Tashi Namgyal Academy in Gangtok and later continued her education at G.D. Goenka Public School in Siliguri. Known for her exceptional academic record, Mahima has also excelled in co-curricular and sports activities, proving herself to be a well-rounded achiever. She notably represented her school at the National School Volleyball Championship, contributing immensely to her school’s sporting legacy.
Her journey to UWC-USA—known for its rigorous academic standards and global student body—was not an easy one. Mahima was chosen from among thousands of applicants across India, a testament to her hard work, dedication, and perseverance. The selection process demanded strong academic performance, leadership qualities, and a commitment to service and intercultural understanding.
The Sharma family has expressed deep gratitude to the Almighty and to several family members who have been integral to Mahima’s upbringing. Special thanks were extended to her paternal grandparents, Shri Icha Ram Sharma and Late Yani Maya Sharma; maternal grandparents, Shri Kapil Mani Panday and Mrs. Uma Devi Panday; and her brother, Kunal Sharma, whose encouragement and support were invaluable.
A heartfelt acknowledgment was also given to the Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for approving the transfer of Gauri Sharma to Bagdogra. This timely support enabled Mahima to attend the highly competitive UWC selection rounds, which ultimately shaped the course of her future.
