A cultural delegation from Sikkim mesmerized audiences at the Mahakumbh Utsav 2025 with their vibrant folk dance and music. The event, held from February 17 to 23 in Prayagraj, provided a prestigious platform to showcase the state’s rich cultural traditions.

The delegation was led by Padma Shri awardee and Sangeet Natak Akademi laureate Naren Gurung, who, along with renowned folk dance choreographer Deepak Darnal, guided the team in presenting some of Sikkim’s most cherished dance forms. The 15-member troupe, comprising 8 dancers and 7 musicians, captivated spectators with performances of Chandii Dance, Sorathi Dance, and Tamang Selo—traditional dance forms deeply rooted in Sikkim’s heritage.

Organized by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) under the Ministry of Culture, the festival celebrated the diverse artistic expressions of India’s northeastern states. Sikkim’s performers left a lasting impression on the audience, receiving appreciation for their energetic and colorful presentations.

The team commenced their journey on February 15 and concluded their performances on February 23, marking an unforgettable cultural exchange. Expressing his gratitude, Naren Gurung said, “A heartfelt thanks to the organizers for this wonderful platform and to everyone who supported and encouraged us. Let’s continue to celebrate and preserve our traditions together.”
