Sikkim is all set to celebrate a momentous milestone in its history as it marks 50 years of statehood in 2025. The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) is organizing a significant event, the ‘Sikkim@50: Golden Jubilee Conclave’, scheduled for May 13, 2025, at Adampul, Gangtok. This special one-day conclave, sponsored by the Government of Sikkim in collaboration with the State Information & Public Relations Department, will bring the state into the national spotlight as it reflects on five decades of growth, challenges, and achievements.
The event is expected to be a grand occasion, drawing attention to Sikkim’s important role in India’s national landscape, particularly as a strategic border state. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, who has been named the chief patron of the organizing committee, unveiled the official logo of the Golden Jubilee Conclave at an event in Rabong on April 16. His leadership is expected to add tremendous value to the conclave, positioning it as a pivotal platform for national dialogue on Sikkim’s future.
The primary objective of this conclave is to take stock of Sikkim’s democratic journey over the past 50 years. As the Himalayan state celebrates this milestone, discussions will center on how the region can address the challenges of today while preparing for the future. A key focus will be the state’s infrastructure readiness, its capacity to handle evolving needs, and its critical importance on the national stage.
One of the primary themes of the conclave will be to highlight Sikkim's strategic significance as a border state. In recent years, Sikkim’s role in maintaining India’s security and connectivity with neighboring regions has only grown more vital. The discussions will not only highlight the state’s role in ensuring national security but also its potential as a hub for regional development.
The conclave will also emphasize Sikkim’s vast investment potential. Sikkim, known for its pristine beauty and strong commitment to sustainability, is poised to attract investments in diverse sectors. From tourism and hospitality to film production, green energy, organic farming, and high-value, low-volume industries, the conclave will focus on how these sectors can be further developed to boost the state’s economy.
To guide the discussions, the event will feature three high-level panel discussions that will bring together distinguished thinkers, policymakers, and industry leaders. The panels will delve into Sikkim’s economic potential, its challenges, and how it can play a more significant role in national policy-making. Experts will offer insights on how Sikkim can contribute to India’s larger objectives, while highlighting the unique value that the state offers in terms of environmental conservation, cultural heritage, and its strong commitment to organic agriculture.
