In a proud moment for Sikkim, two young karate players, Muskan Tamang and Tensung Namgyal Bhutia, have brought home bronze medals from the 4th National Karate Championships 2025 held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The competition witnessed participation from hundreds of talented martial artists from across India, making the achievement of these young athletes even more remarkable.

Muskan Tamang, just 12 years old, won a bronze medal in the Girls Kumite -45 kg category. Her focus, discipline, and strong performance helped her rise through the early rounds of the championship. Facing tough opponents from other states, Muskan displayed excellent footwork and quick reflexes, showing maturity far beyond her age. Her coach praised her determination and said she trained hard for months leading up to the championship.

Alongside her, 9-year-old Tensung Namgyal Bhutia shined in the Boys Kata category, also earning a bronze medal. Kata is a highly technical discipline in karate where competitors demonstrate a series of movements and stances. Tensung’s performance was graceful, precise, and powerful. Judges were impressed by his focus and timing. His bronze win is especially special because of his young age and the level of skill he displayed.

Both Muskan and Tensung are members of the Sikkim State Karate Do Association, which has been working tirelessly to promote martial arts among children and youth in the state. The Association has extended its warmest congratulations to the two medalists. In a statement, the Association said, “We are extremely proud of Muskan Tamang and Tensung Namgyal Bhutia. Their achievements reflect the growing talent in Sikkim and show that hard work and discipline always bring results.”

The championship in Dehradun was organized with great enthusiasm, bringing together the best young karate talents from all over India. Participants competed in various categories and age groups over several days.
