Sikkim: Woman dies from head injuries after being found unconscious in Kaluk

Preliminary investigations suggest that Suk Maya Subba, a known habitual drunkard, did not return home the previous night, January 7, 2025.

A 47-year-old woman, Suk Maya Subba, succumbed to injuries after being found unconscious in a jungle near her home in the Lower Martam area of Gyalshing district. According to the information provided by Dr. Gracmela Lepcha, the Medical Officer in Charge of Rinchenpong PHC, Suk Maya Subba was brought to the emergency unit at around 9:25 AM with head injuries. Despite efforts to treat her, she was declared dead at approximately 10:55 AM.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Suk Maya Subba, a known habitual drunkard, did not return home the previous night, January 7, 2025. Early the next morning, she was discovered unconscious in a jungle area near a cliff, not far from her residence in Lower Martam. No foul play has been detected at this stage, and it is believed that the injuries may have resulted from a fall.

In accordance with standard procedure, an inquest over the deceased's body was conducted by the BDO of Kaluk. The body was later forwarded to the New STNM Hospital in Sochaygang, Gangtok, for a post-mortem examination.

The case has been registered under UD Case No. 02/2025, Section 194 of the BNSS Act, 2023. Investigations are ongoing.
