Sikkim University has cancelled the provisional admission of a first-semester student, Raj Shekhar Yadav, M.Com, following findings of serious misconduct and breach of discipline. The decision, announced through Office Order No. 231/2025, was taken by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Laxuman Sharma under the powers conferred by Statute 29(4) of the Sikkim University Act and Ordinance OC-12.
According to the order, the Disciplinary Committee, constituted under Ordinance OC-12, found Yadav guilty of posting objectionable, indecent, and derogatory content on the Department of Commerce’s WhatsApp group between August 14 and 16, 2025. The content, the report stated, reflected “disrespect to national days of importance, including Independence Day celebrations,” and also showed “personal disregard” towards the Nepali language and community at large.
The complaint was filed jointly by faculty members of the Department of Commerce and the Sikkim University Students Association (SUSA). After inquiry, the Committee recommended strong disciplinary action.
Acting on the report, the Vice-Chancellor ordered immediate cancellation of Yadav’s admission, stressing the University’s zero tolerance towards acts of indiscipline that undermine national values and communal harmony.
