Sikkim University alumnus Vaidyanath Nishant brings glory with International Film Festival win

The winning documentary, titled "Bow Barracks: Beyond the Red Bricks", stood out among more than 1,200 films submitted globally this season.

Sikkim University has a reason to celebrate as one of its alumni, filmmaker Vaidyanath Nishant, has made a mark on the international stage. Nishant, who is a proud alumnus of Sikkim University, has won the Best Documentary Short Film Award at the MEI International Film Festival (MEIIFF) 2025, one of India's leading film festivals that attracts entries from across the world.

The winning documentary, titled "Bow Barracks: Beyond the Red Bricks", stood out among more than 1,200 films submitted globally this season. The film festival organizers praised Nishant's work for its meaningful storytelling and its strong message that creates awareness about society and the lives of people often forgotten in mainstream narratives. The award was officially presented with a certificate of recognition, with the festival directors Boszur and Jaysan P. Anbalyan extending their heartfelt congratulations.

The documentary "Bow Barracks: Beyond the Red Bricks" was created with a dedicated team. Assistant Director Adrija Saha worked closely with Nishant, while the cinematography was handled by Adrija Saha, Monoshij Ghosh, and Purba Majumder. The editing of the film was done by Monoshij Ghosh, with music composed by Atharv Pillai. Subtitles for the film were provided by Shivangi Naidu, Arnabi Mallick, and Anurag Das, making the film accessible to a wider audience.

The recognition is seen as a matter of pride for Sikkim University, as Nishant represents a new generation of storytellers who studied at the university and are now carrying their voice to international platforms.
