Sikkim: Two former Police Officers critically injured in car accident near Soreng

An accident occurred on the afternoon of January 31 when a vehicle carrying two former police officers plunged into a gorge near Khorongbotey Golai, Sawaligaon, in Soreng District, Sikkim. The crash has left both individuals in critical condition.
The vehicle, an Alto 800 (registration number SK04 2022), was traveling from Gelling to Jorethang when it lost control at high speed and veered off the road. The driver, Hari Das Rai, son of Late Man Bahadur Rai from Daragoan, Jorethang, was accompanied by Gopal Prasad Chhetri, son of Bom Bahadur Chhetri, also from Jorethang. The vehicle’s sudden loss of control led to the devastating accident.
Local residents and authorities rushed to the scene and managed to evacuate both individuals. They were immediately transported to CHC Jorethang, where their condition was reported as critical. Hari Das Rai was later referred to the District Hospital in Namchi, while Gopal Chhetri was transferred first to STNM Hospital in Gangtok and then to Neotia Getwell Hospital in Siliguri for further treatment.
Gopal Chhetri suffered severe injuries, including a spinal cord injury, 11 stitches on his head, and paralysis in his lower body. Hari Das Rai’s condition remains under close medical observation.
