Gangtok witnessed a vibrant display of Lepcha culture and heritage during the two-day pre-Namsoong celebration, ‘Khamri,’ which concluded on Sunday. Organized by Dzongu Heritage, the event served as a platform to celebrate the rich traditions, history, and cuisine of the Lepcha community.
This year’s theme, ‘Lungthen Saa,’ emphasized the significance of cultural preservation and community identity. The event featured a variety of programs, including traditional dances, musical performances, and an exhibition of Lepcha artifacts and culinary delicacies, attracting both locals and visitors.
Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, the Hon’ble Minister for Forest and Environment and MLA of Dzongu, graced the occasion and highlighted the importance of such initiatives. “Events like ‘Khamri’ are vital in preserving and promoting our Lepcha heritage. They offer an opportunity for younger generations to connect with their roots and for others to learn about our unique culture,” he said.
