The Transport Department of Sikkim has commenced preparations for the much-anticipated Sarathi Samman Diwas 2025. A crucial coordination meeting was held today at Yatayat Bhawan, the department’s headquarters in Gangtok, aiming to ensure the successful organisation of this prestigious annual event.

The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble MLA and Advisor to the Transport Department, Shri Madan Cintury, who emphasized the importance of recognizing the relentless service and dedication of drivers—affectionately known as Sarathis—across the state. The session witnessed the presence of key officials and stakeholders from the transport sector including Chairman of All Sikkim Welfare Board, Shri Sonam Ongdup Bhutia; Transport Secretary, Shri Prabhakar; State Transport Authority (STA) representative Shri Dukpa Sherpa; PC-cum-Secretary Shri Manish Pradhan; RTO Head (HQ) Shri Roshan Pradhan; State-Level Chalak Wing President Smt. Kamla Tamang; and several executive members from various transport associations.

During the discussion, comprehensive strategies were laid out to ensure a smooth and inclusive execution of the programme. Topics such as logistical arrangements, venue management, invitee coordination, recognition categories, and safety measures were thoroughly deliberated upon. It was unanimously agreed that Sarathi Samman Diwas should serve not only as a day of recognition but also as a platform to boost morale and foster solidarity among transport workers.

Madan Cintury, addressing the gathering said, “Sarathis are the lifeline of our state. From ferrying children to schools to delivering goods across remote regions, they keep our state moving. It is our duty to celebrate their contributions with due dignity and care.” He further urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to make the upcoming celebration more impactful and meaningful than ever before.

The meeting also highlighted the need to engage local transport associations, community representatives, and civil society organisations to widen the reach and impact of the event. The participation of women drivers and emphasis on road safety awareness were also suggested as focal themes for the 2025 edition.

Transport Secretary Prabhakar stressed the need for timely communication between departments and partners involved in the programme. He remarked, “Every year, Sarathi Samman Diwas brings immense pride to the transport community. This time, we aim to set a new benchmark in how we recognise service and dedication.”

Kamla Tamang, President of the State-Level Chalak Wing, praised the department’s inclusive approach and highlighted the significance of gender representation and welfare in the transport sector. She called for specific recognition of women drivers and their increasing presence in the industry.

Additionally, members proposed the inclusion of cultural performances, health check-up camps, and felicitation of veteran drivers to make the event more holistic and engaging. With the collective enthusiasm witnessed during the meeting, expectations are high for Sarathi Samman Diwas 2025 to set a precedent in honouring the tireless spirit of transport personnel.
