Sikkim Traffic Police organizes road safety awareness campaign in Gangtok

On January 20, 2025, the Sikkim Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Gangtok, conducted the second day of its Road Safety Awareness Campaign under the National Road Safety Month 2025. The event took place at the South West Taxi Stand, Deorali, in Gangtok, and saw enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Traffic Bimal Gurung and Traffic Inspector Shri Naren Rai served as the resource persons for the campaign. Delivering the welcome speech, the District Youth Officer (DYO) of NYK emphasized the significance of conducting such awareness campaigns annually to ensure safer roads and informed citizens.
Addressing the audience, DSP Traffic Bimal Gurung urged drivers to uphold their dignity and pride in their profession while strictly adhering to traffic rules and regulations. “Safe driving not only protects lives but also reflects the character of a responsible driver,” he said.

His session aimed to educate attendees about legal compliance and road safety best practices.
The event also featured the presence of Arjun Pradhan, NSS Program Officer from Sichey Senior Secondary School.
As part of the follow-up activities, MYBharat volunteers conducted traffic management exercises in the Deorali area under the supervision of the Traffic Police. These hands-on activities were designed to encourage civic responsibility and practical understanding of traffic regulations.
