Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, while speaking at the India Today Conclave, highlighted Sikkim’s impressive economic growth, stating that the Himalayan state now boasts the highest per capita income in India. Rijiju noted that Sikkim has surpassed major regions like Delhi, Chandigarh and Goa in terms of per capita income, making it the richest state in the country by this measure.

Rijiju expressed optimism about Arunachal Pradesh’s economic prospects, stating that the state has the potential to match Sikkim’s growth trajectory within the next seven to eight years. He said that Arunachal Pradesh, being larger and rich in resources, could achieve a per capita income comparable to Gulf nations if it harnesses its full economic potential.

He also clarified that this growth should not come at the cost of environmental degradation or excessive exploitation of natural resources. Instead, he praised Sikkim’s balanced development approach, calling it a model for other northeastern and hill states to follow. Rijiju commended Sikkim Chief Minister’s progressive leadership and said that it is important for other northeastern states to learn from each other’s successes.
