For the very first time in the state, Sikkim will witness a large-scale motorsport extravaganza filled with daring stunts, roaring engines, and expert performances by professional car and bike stunt riders from across the country. This thrilling celebration of speed and control is being organised as part of the 50 Years of Statehood festivities.
Adding prestige to the event, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will be present as the Chief Guest, showing his support for youth-driven adventure and sporting excellence. His presence is expected to draw huge crowds from across the region.
Addressing the media, Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister said, “It would be a pleasure for me to let the entire nation know that the tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim is celebrating 50 years of statehood on May 16. This rally is part of both pre- and post-celebrations to mark the occasion. The event marks a major step in showcasing the scenic Himalayan state’s potential in adventure tourism and sustainable development."
The rally, which is being organised for the first time in Sikkim, is jointly coordinated by Summit Times and Service to Mankind, with full support and facilitation from the Government of Sikkim under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Tamang further said that this will be the first time in Indian history that such a motorsport event is being hosted in the rugged terrain of a small state like Sikkim. The event is expected to bring national and international attention to the region, not only for its celebration but also as a platform to promote sustainable tourism, motorsports, and adventure activities.
“This is not just a celebration,” Tamang said, “It is also a chance for us to tell the world that Sikkim has immense potential for tourism that aligns with sustainability. The terrain, the environment, and the culture here offer a unique experience to all.”
He also said that around 45 teams from different parts of the country will participate in the Mount & Rust for Sikkim TSD Car Rally 2025. These teams will consist of nearly 100 to 150 members, all of whom will travel across various parts of Sikkim during the rally. While exploring the state's roads and landscape, the participants will also get to witness its rich flora and fauna, vibrant cultures, and traditional cuisines.
Tamang said that this rally will not only boost tourism but will also create ambassadors for the state. “When these participants return to their home states,” he said, “they will carry stories, experiences, and visuals of Sikkim that will encourage others to visit. In this way, they become promoters of our state.”
