Sikkim: Three-day poultry training programme concludes at SIRD Karfectar

A three-day training programme on poultry farming concluded successfully today at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) in Karfectar. The event was organized by the Soreng District Administration in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department (AH&VS), Soreng, and funded by the North East Council under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India.
Held from February 17 to 19, 2025, the programme saw participation from 300 beneficiaries, with 100 attendees each day from Mabong-Segeng, Gelling-Baiguney, Samsing Pipaley, and Zoom GPU.
The inaugural session featured a welcome address by Dr. Kunzang P. Bhutia, Joint Director, AH&VS, Soreng. Chief guest Mrs. Pramila Gurung, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Baiguney, emphasized the potential benefits of the scheme for rural poultry farmers. Panchayat members from the respective GPUs also graced the event with their presence.
Participants attended informative sessions covering various aspects of poultry farming:
• Introduction to Poultry Industry: Led by Dr. Roshan Pirthawar, Deputy Director, Mangalbaria.
• Poultry Management: Conducted by Dr. Shanti Ram Chettri, Veterinary Officer, Anden.
• Disease Management: Dr. Sharin Gurung, Veterinary Officer, Soreng, explained common poultry diseases, their symptoms, and prevention strategies.
