A theft occurred at the Siddhi Devi Dham Rholu Mandir during the night, just hours before the 16th Rholu Diwas celebrations. The theft, which took place between midnight and 12:30 a.m., was thwarted when temple priest Udhav Sharma caught two individuals attempting to steal money from the donation box. The stolen amount was estimated at Rs 50,000.
The temple committee, in a joint FIR, identified one of the accused as Bijoy Biswakarma, a resident of 5th Mile, Kalimpong. He was apprehended on the spot, while his accomplice, Ujjal Biswakarma from Pakyong District, managed to flee in a WagonR (Registration No. SK01T 2619). Authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large.
Earlier this month, a similar theft occurred at Rholu Mandir on December 9, and another on December 2 at Kali Mandir, Travini, where Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 and 80 kg of copper were stolen. The temple committee suspects that the same individuals are behind all these thefts.
