A preliminary survey was conducted at the Dojok Rangpo Khola area under the 15-Rangang Yangang Constituency, Namchi District, to assess the feasibility of constructing a suspension bridge. The initiative, led by the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and Area MLA Raj Kumari Thapa, and guided by Karma Subba, OSD to the Chief Minister (Political Affairs), aligns with the state’s ambitious vision, "Sunawlo Sikkim Samriddha Sikkim," spearheaded by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).
A technical team from Sachin Dewan Architect Firm, Tadong, Gangtok, accompanied by SKM youths of Rabong-Sangmoo, undertook the survey to address long-standing connectivity issues caused by the devastating Pathing landslides. The landslides had severed the original Rabong-Yangang road, forcing commuters to take longer, less convenient routes.
The proposed suspension bridge aims to restore direct connectivity between Rabong and Yangang while enhancing the region’s tourism potential. Designed as both a practical solution and a tourist attraction, the bridge promises a shorter and more efficient route, fostering economic growth and social cohesion.
According to the technical team, the project is feasible and awaits necessary approvals and funding. If implemented, the bridge is expected to transform the area into a major tourism hub, drawing visitors to its unique features. Tourism Minister of Sikkim recently visited the site and recognized its potential, pledging support for its development into a premier destination.
Karma Subba’s persistent efforts to advance tourism and infrastructure initiatives reflect his dedication to regional progress and sustainable development. His commitment has garnered widespread appreciation among locals, who eagerly anticipate the opportunities the project will bring.
Residents of Rabong-Sangmoo expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and MLA Raj Kumari Thapa for their support and vision for rural development.
