Sikkim: Stock discrepancies worth over Rs 79 lakh reported by major retail stores in Gangtok

Three major retail outlets in Gangtok; Vajra World Mall, Reliance Smart Bazaar and Smart Bazaar have reported large-scale stock shortages amounting to a cumulative value of over Rs 79 lakh.

According to police, three separate FIRs were filed on Thursday at Sadar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Store managers from each of the outlets informed that the discrepancies came to light during year-end physical stock verification.

Prabhdeep Singh Matharu, Store Manager of Vajra World Mall, reported a shortage worth Rs 14,13,801.

Sujoy Biswas, Manager of Reliance Smart Bazaar, found a discrepancy of Rs 19,23,284.

Ziyarul Islam, Store Manager at Smart Bazaar in Namnang, reported the largest shortfall of Rs 45,91,488.

All three cases have been registered under Sections 303(2), 316(2), and 314 of the BNS, 2023, and investigations are underway to identify the culprits behind the stock misappropriations.

Police have not ruled out internal involvement and are examining CCTV footage, employee records and inventory systems as part of the probe.
