Sikkim made a striking impression at the 8th Bengal Tourism Mart (BTM) 2024, held from December 17 to 19 in Siliguri. The largest B2B and B2C travel event in East and North East India, BTM 2024 aims to position North Bengal and Sikkim as key destinations for the domestic inbound market. The event was organized by the Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators Association (EHTTOA) and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and West Bengal Tourism (WBT).

The event saw participation from several states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Assam, and Odisha, alongside international representations from Nepal and the Pokhara Tourism Council. Sikkim’s presence at the Mart offered a prime platform to promote its tourism offerings to visitors from Darjeeling Hills, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the North Eastern states of India, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.

A highlight of the event was the prestigious Award Ceremony on December 18, where Sikkim was honored with the "World's First Organic State" award. The award was presented to Prakash Chhetri, Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, who expressed his gratitude during his speech. He spoke about Sikkim's unique tourism potential and the state government's vision for tourism development under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Secretary Chhetri outlined upcoming plans to further boost tourism, ensuring that Sikkim remains a top choice for visitors. "The Department of Tourism is committed to providing the best hospitality, services, and infrastructure to our visitors," he said, reinforcing the state's dedication to sustainable tourism development in line with the "Sunaulo Samriddha ani Samarth Sikkim" vision.
