Sikkim State Cooperative Union holds 62nd board meeting, discusses key agendas

The Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN) held its 62nd Board Meeting on Sunday at its conference hall in Assam Lingzey. The meeting focused on reviewing the organization’s operations and discussing strategies for strengthening the cooperative movement in the state.
Addressing the gathering, SICUN Chairman Mangal Jit Rai spoke about the organization’s commitment to innovation and business-oriented modules for growth. He highlighted upcoming plans, including celebrations for the Foundation Day and the International Year of Cooperatives, aiming to bring together key stakeholders to promote cooperative initiatives.
Dr. Rai also stressed the importance of empowering employees and fostering a work environment that enables them to contribute effectively to the organization’s progress.
Earlier, SICUN CEO Phadung Bhutia provided a review of activities undertaken since the 61st Board Meeting. He outlined the progress made on various agendas and discussed the challenges faced in their implementation.
During the meeting, board members deliberated on key aspects, including training and education programs, cooperative development, and hostel management. The upcoming training calendar and budget for the financial year 2025-26 were also presented and approved. Additionally, the board discussed the establishment of an Employee Welfare Account and new business opportunities through the SICUN Guest House.
Several key decisions were finalized to elevate the organization’s role in cooperative development. The meeting saw active participation from SICUN Vice President Purna Prasad Sharma, Additional Registrar of the Cooperation Department PT Lepcha, Joint Director of IPRD Bishal Khawas, General Manager of Sikkim Milk Union Kesang Diki Barfungpa and board members from SIMFED, the Planning Department, and SICUN.
