Sikkim: Soreng triumphs in second semi-final at Jorethang Maghey Mela Football Tournament

The fourth day of the vibrant Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025 saw the second semi-final match of the Inter District Open Women Football Tournament, organized by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Mela Organizing Committee.

The match, held at Jorethang, was graced by the presence of MP Indra Hang Subba as the Chief Guest, alongside Minister Bhim Hang Limboo of the Building and Housing Department and Labour Department, as the Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees included Madan Cintury, MLA of Zoom-Salghari and Chief Patron of the Maghey Sankranti Mela, Biren Chandra Rai, Advisor to SBS, Yougen Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister and Pavitra Manav, President of NJNP.

The much-anticipated semi-final saw Soreng district face off against Mangan district in a closely contested match. Soreng emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, securing their place in the finals. Minu Hangma Limboo of the Soreng team was awarded the title of “Player of the Match” for her outstanding performance.

During the event, the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were presented with souvenirs by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, recognizing their contributions to the success of the tournament and the Maghey Mela celebrations.
